Can I make this fruit salad a few hours before serving it? I am worried about the pears and apples from turning. Any tips appreciated!
Sarah
I realize this is an old comment but in case this helps anyone else - I made this to bring to work for a party and put the dressing on the night before. I did not have issues with the apples and pears turning because I added a little more lime juice than this called for and citrus helps keep fruit from browning. (I also used canned mandarin oranges so the juice from those probably helped too.)
Julia
Thank you for such a great feedback and your tips!

I have found that if I put white powdered sugar on Apple's they do not turn dark, I just sprinkle powder sugar over all the salad and it really keeps it longer and doesn't turn dark!
Diane
Brought it to a farm potluck with a maple syrup theme this afternoon, left with an empty bowl. Love it.
Julia
Diane, I am so happy to hear that! 🙂
Susan
This may be a silly question but ... if you pour on the dressing a few hours ahead will the fruit get too soggy?
Julia
I would add the dressing right before serving for best results!
Jessi

I am going to try it but it would be hard for me to make it last minute. I see that you say it’s better served immediately but what if you can’t. Will it still be ok even if perhaps not as good?
Julia
It will still be pretty good, it's just best when served immediately.

What can I substitute for the pomegranate seeds
Jan
Is there another fruit I can substitute for the pomegranate seed?

The lime juice is a lovely addition this fruit salad. Don't leave it out!
Julia
Yes, I agree, the lime juice give a nice flavor to the rest of the fruit! 🙂
Kallee
Does this keep well refrigerated? If so, for about how long?
Julia
It's better served immediately.
Mark
This recipe looks great. I imagine that the lime juices would prevent the apples and Pears from browning?
To further Kallee's question, is there any downsides to serving this after refrigerating? I would think that the juices would slightly rehydrate the crainsins and the flavors would blend. kiwi I do find best served immediately because it's so soft. Thanks!
Leslie
Just wondering if there is any way this salad can be prepared ahead of time? Perhaps without the dressing?
karen
cut up fruit ahead or baggies' or place in separate bowls. apples and pears will need something on them to stop browning.
