Here's everything you need to build the most beautiful, complete breakfast charcuterie board. It includes croissants, mini quiches, bagels, eggs, smoked salmon, cheeses, cured meats, crackers, pastries, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, and even breakfast mimosas!

Breakfast Charcuterie Board for All Occasions

This board works beautifully for holiday mornings - Christmas, New Year's Eve brunch, Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day - and you can also make it for special celebrations like birthdays, anniversaries, baby or bridal showers, graduations, or parties for family and friends. I love that I can prep most components in advance (make mini quiches, boil eggs, slice fruit, portion cheeses and nuts, set condiments), then warm pastries and mini quiches just before serving. I keep meats and smoked salmon on a separate plate to keep the bread crisp. You can also prep and add my lemon blueberry bread, potato crust quiche, or egg muffins. Below, I'll describe everything I used on my breakfast charcuterie board, share my design pro tips, and include any variations and substitutions.

Breakfast Charcuterie Board (croissants, pastries, and fresh fruit and berries).

    Ingredients: Breads, Crackers, & Pastries

    • Croissants / Mini cinnamon rolls / Danish: I used buttery croissants and a tray of mini cinnamon rolls and Danishes. I also recommend pain au chocolat, brioche, or even toaster waffles if kids are around.
    • Bagels: You can do a mix - plain, everything, sesame so everyone finds a favorite. You can sub mini bagels for smaller appetites, and I always add a gluten-free option when needed.
    • Crusty rolls & thin crisp breads: I like these for structure and stacking. Baguette slices, English muffins, or sourdough toasts work great too.
    • Seeded & fruit-nut crackers: I use these for crunch and a touch of sweetness. They also add visual variety to the breakfast charcuterie board. You can also use rosemary crisps, rye crisps, or GF seed crackers.

    Ingredients: Eggs & Savory Bites

    • Soft-boiled eggs: I usually boil them 6-7 minutes for jammy centers. Prefer hands-off? Use peeled jammy halves, or sub mini scrambled egg cups for kids.
    • Mini quiches: I make mine from scratch, but store-bought are perfect for easy entertaining. Another great option for a breakfast charcuterie board is frittata squares - try my ham and broccoli frittata, everyone's favorite sweet potato-sausage frittata, or mushroom-spinach frittata.
    • Smoked salmon: That seems to be everybody's go-to brunch protein. It goes so well with eggs, mini quiches and bagels.
    • Prosciutto/cured ham: I like a few ribbons - they are great for soft-boiled eggs. Salami or turkey prosciutto also fit nicely; vegetarian deli slices work if you're keeping it meat-free.

    Ingredients: Cheese & Accompaniments

    • Brie/Camembert: I usually choose brie as everyone loves it, and it creates creamy, mellow bites along with a drizzle of honey. Triple-crème or a goat brie are easy upgrades.
    • Blue cheese: I prefer mild blue cheese (or gorgonzola), as most people seem to prefer that. Stilton or another gentle blue will also do the trick.
    • Sliced cheese (Cheddar, Gouda, Havarti): I also like adding a mix of aged, soft, and more artisanal cheeses to the brunch board, in addition to traditional choices.
    • Fruit (figs, grapes, berries, melon): You can easily create colorful combos with berries and grapes, then tuck in figs or melon for freshness. In fall/winter, pears and persimmons are great; in summer, peaches are perfect!
    • Green olives: I like a briny counterpoint. Cornichons or pickled red onions are excellent swaps if olives aren't your thing.
    • Roasted nuts (pistachios, cashews, walnuts): I scatter a handful for crunch and protein. Spiced pecans or candied almonds are fun if you want something sweet-salty.
    • Honey & berry jam: I set both on the charcuterie board and often add orange marmalade or fig jam. Lemon curd, apple butter, or maple syrup are also brunch-perfect.
    • Yogurt: I like to add cups of plain Greek yogurt to my breakfast boards. Vanilla skyr or a plant-based yogurt is great too. I'll often set out granola for DIY parfaits.
    • Rosemary & thyme sprigs: I use these for aroma and a polished presentation, especially if you're preparing this for Christmas morning brunch. In spring, I'll switch to mint; for Easter or baby/bridal showers, edible flowers look beautiful.

    Ingredients: Festive Drinks

    • Bubbly Classics. I've included a Cranberry-Orange Mimosa with this breakfast charcuterie board. A Sugar Cookie Martini would be a great addition to a Christmas-themed brunch board. You can also serve Bellini (peach, mango, or strawberry), Kir Royale, Aperol Spritz, and Hugo Spritz.
    • Zero-Proof (Kid- and Driver-Friendly). Serve your favorite mocktails or alcohol free sparkling drinks. Sparkling Citrus Cooler, Pomegranate Fizz, and Peach Bellini Mocktail are great options. You can also do Ginger Beer with Lime (NA "Moscow Mule" vibes) or Lemonade + Sparkling Water (any citrus blend).
    • Warm Sips (Holiday Morning Favorites). Don't forget about coffee (regular + decaf), holiday Hot Cocoa, Chai Latte or Spiced Black Tea. Christmas charcuterie board will also be great with Mulled Wine, Hot Toddies (whiskey, rum, or bourbon), Hot Buttered Rum, Mulled Apple Cider (spiked), Irish Coffee, and Peppermint Hot Chocolate
    • Simple Garnishes. Set out a tray of beautiful garnishes that guests can easily add to their drinks. Here are just a few ideas: orange wheels, lemon twists, fresh cranberries, pomegranate arils, rosemary or mint sprigs, sugared rims, dehydrated citrus.

How to Style a Charcuterie Board Like a Pro

Here are practical, design-forward pro tips I use for charcuterie boards (and they translate perfectly to a breakfast/brunch board):

    • Start with anchors: Place 3-5 small bowls first (honey, jam, yogurt, olives). Triangles guide the eye and make the board feel intentional.
    • Build lanes, not piles: Fan breads/crackers in gentle arcs; create "paths" so guests can navigate without knocking things over.
    • Mix textures on purpose: Aim for creamy + crunchy + juicy + flaky in every quadrant (e.g., brie next to nuts, berries by crackers, croissants near jam).
    • Color strategy: Pop dark tones (blueberries, olives) against light cheeses; repeat colors 3 times around the board to tie it together.
    • Height and shape play: Stand cheese wedges upright, stack mini rolls, curl prosciutto, and ribbon salmon; height adds that "wow" factor.
    • Use negative space: A little wood showing keeps it airy and prevents the "overloaded" look.
    • Wet vs. dry separation: Anything sticky, briny, or juicy goes in bowls or on side plates (salmon, olives, melon) to protect breads and crackers.
    • Slice some, leave some: Pre-slice half of each cheese and bread; leave the rest whole with a knife-inviting and easy for first bites.

Best Boards for Brunch: From Wood to Sheet Pan

Use a large wooden board (around 18×24 inches) - it can be rectangular or round. You can also use a large rimmed clean sheet pan. Marble or slate looks polished and keeps cheese cool, while wood grips crackers and pastries. Put "wet" items (smoked salmon, juicy fruit) on a separate non-porous platter, and add small bowls/ramekins for honey, jams, yogurt, and olives. Choose food-safe, flat surfaces.

    Instructions

    • For items served warm: Boil the eggs for 6-7 minutes for soft centers, then place in egg cups. Warm the pastries, mini quiches, and croissants in a 325ºF oven. Lightly toast the bagels.
    • Begin the charcuterie board by arranging the base layer. We started by placing the pots of honey and jam in a rough triangle formation on the board. We then added the yogurt pots. Next, we added the other larger elements: bread rolls and bagels. Fan them out across the board to create structure and balance. The quiches were then added along with the croissants. All these elements filled the larger gaps.
    • Nestle wedges of cheese across the board, between the breads, followed by the pastries.
    • We added the meat slices and smoked salmon to a separate plate beside the main charcuterie board. Small plates arranged around the board are good for any other "overflow" items that may not fit, such as the melon slices and olives.
    • Tuck in figs, grapes, berries, and nuts to fill gaps and add color.
    • For a final flourish, garnish the entire board with sprigs of herbs.
    • Pour Cranberry Mimosas into coupe glasses rimmed with sugar. Float a few fresh cranberries and a sprig of rosemary in each for a cheerful pop of color.
    • Let everyone tuck in and serve themselves.

    Notes

    • Here is the recipe for my Christmas Cranberry-Orange Mimosas.
    • Here is the recipe for my Mini Quiches.
    • Every element can be made or prepped ahead of time. Simply warm the pastries and quiches before serving, pour the mimosas just before guests arrive, and let everyone help themselves.
    • For an extra festive touch, scatter small Christmas ornaments, ribbon, stars, and sprigs of holly around the edge of the board. This really brings the holiday magic to life!
