October in review

October has been a good month for me: I posted a lot of my favorite recipes here, and I’ve accomplished all of my objectives outside of blogging (working out at least 3 times a week, cooking at home every evening, making a big dent in re-organizing the house, and being productive at my day job).

October also marks 2 months since I’ve started my blog, so I thought it would be good to do some simple analysis of what were the highlights and the most popular posts in October.

I took advantage of various events on other food blogs, and I listed the summary of my participation in those events below, all of them, interestingly, – SeriousEats.com related.  Serious Eats site actually does a great job of organizing various food-related challenges and round-ups for everybody who reads their blog, whether it’s food bloggers or just food lovers.   They do it  pretty consistently and in a very organized manner.  I am very impressed with them.

So, here are the highlights:

  • On October 3, 2012, SeriousEats.com Weekend Cook and Tell event: Fresh Pasta featured my ravioli with spinach and ricotta cheese filling recipe

  • On October 10, 2012, SeriousEats.com Weekend Cook and Tell event: Puff Pastry featured my recipe for puff pastry pizzas with bell peppers and mushrooms

  • On October 22, 2012, SeriousEats.com announced me as one of 5 finalists in a Puff Pastry contest for my photo of Halloween themed puff pastry pumpkin pie with apple-cranberry stuffed crust

  • On October 23, 2012, SeriousEats.com Weekend Cook and Tell event: Keen on quinoa included my thai red curry sauce with chicken and quinoa in their weekly round-up.

  • On October 23, 2012, Pizza (Slice) site of SeriousEats.com had a special Halloween mystery edition of My Pie Monday event where they featured my Halloween recipe: chocolate bugs

  • On October 31, 2012, SeriousEats.com Weekend Cook and Tell event: the Savory Side of Pumpkin featured my Pumpkin or butternut squash turnovers puff pastry recipe

Some of those ravioli did not look perfect at all, only pretty ones made it into the photo shoot :), the ugly ones went straight into my hungry mouth. 🙂

Thanks! I use a very basic DSLR camera – Nikon D80. It’s a relatively old model and, I believe, it’s discontinued. Nothing fancy. My lense (which is very important) is basic too – Nikon Nikkor 50mm, 1.8 – the lense costs $100. Canon has similar lense for the same price. The lense is what makes all the difference.

I can’t believe you’ve only been blogging for two months. Your photographs are beautiful. I can’t wait to see more of your creations!

Thanks! I’ve been photographing my food for fun for a year now, just without a site – for friends and family only. 🙂
