Chocolate Covered Oreos are a Fun and Festive Easter Treat
This is not my usual kind of recipe—I’m usually the one bringing roasted vegetables like this cheese baked asparagus with bacon or something green and leafy like this strawberry blueberry spinach salad to the Easter party. I was even debating whether to post it or not. But every now and then, I like to switch things up with something playful and sweet like this carrot cake loaf and Easter cupcakes with chocolate nests and mini eggs. These Easter Chocolate Covered Oreos are the perfect no-bake, ridiculously easy treat that screams spring and makes kids (and grown-ups) very, very happy. Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Oreo cookies – I used regular oreo cookies. You can also use Oreo golden sandwich cookies. I also love to use gluten-free Oreos or similar GF cookies like Glutino Chocolate Vanilla Creme Cookies.
- White almond bark – Melts smoothly and sets fast. Sub with white candy melts, white baking chocolate, or even white chocolate chips with a tablespoon of coconut oil or shortening mixed in for easier dipping. You can even use my white chocolate covered strawberries recipe as a base.
- Green candy melts – Used for drizzling or piping grass-like detail. If unavailable, use white chocolate or almond bark mixed with a few drops of oil-based green food coloring (avoid water-based coloring—it can seize the chocolate).
- Green jimmie sprinkles – Mimic the look of grass and add texture. Can be swapped with green sanding sugar, green shredded coconut (dyed with food coloring), or any long green sprinkle variety.
- Assorted Easter-themed sprinkles – Adds color and festive design. Use any pastel shapes, nonpareils, confetti sprinkles, or holiday-specific decorations like bunny or egg shapes.
- Mini chocolate eggs or small Easter candy decorations (optional) – Great for topping and creating a “nest” effect. Sub with jelly beans, mini marshmallows, chocolate-covered almonds, or any small candy that fits the Easter theme.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Oreos
- This recipe is incredibly easy and a great way to spend quality time doing something fun with kids, grandparents—or both! I started by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper to make cleanup easier and to prevent the cookies from sticking—wax paper or a silicone baking mat works just as well here.
- Then I melted the almond bark in a microwave-safe bowl: one minute on full power, a good stir, then a couple more 30-second intervals until smooth.

- I dipped each Oreo into the melted coating using a fork, tapped off the excess on the side of the bowl, and set them on the prepared sheet. It helps to work quickly here so the coating doesn’t start to thicken.

- For the green drizzle, I melted green candy melts at 50% power (go slow—this stuff scorches easily) and transferred the smooth mixture into a piping bag. A zip-top bag with the corner snipped off works too.

- I drizzled the green back and forth over each cookie, then immediately sprinkled on green jimmies to create the grassy look.
- Next, I added pastel Easter sprinkles—anything egg-shaped or bunny-themed looks cute. You press them gently onto the coated Oreo while the coating is still wet. You can even add in a few mini chocolate eggs for extra color.
- Let the Oreos set at room temperature or chill in the fridge for 10 minutes to speed up the process.
- If you're making these ahead, they store well at room temp in an airtight container for a few days.

- 3 oz green candy melts
- Green jimmie sprinkles to resemble grass
- Assorted Easter sprinkles e.g., pastel shapes, eggs, bunnies, etc.
- Mini chocolate eggs or small candy decorations for topping optional
Instructions
- Prepare Your Work Area: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Melt the Almond Bark In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the almond bark for 1 minute at 100% power. Stir the chocolate, if needed reheat for 30 second intervals until smooth.
- Dip the Oreos: Using a fork or dipping tool, carefully submerge each Oreo into the melted candy coating. Tap the fork gently on the side of the bowl to remove excess coating. Place the dipped Oreo on the prepared baking sheet.
- Melt the Green Candy Melts: In a microwave- safe bowl, melt the candy melts at 50% power for 1 minute, continue to reheat at 30 second intervals (at half power) until smooth.
- Pipe on Green Drizzle: Pour the melted candy melts into a piping bag, cut a small tip off the end, and drizzle it back and forth over the top of the cookie.
- Decorate with Sprinkles: Immediately sprinkle green jimmies on top to resemble grass. Add additional Easter-themed sprinkles as desired.
- Optional Toppings: If using mini chocolate eggs or candy decorations, press them gently onto the coated Oreo while the coating is still wet.

- Serve or Store: Once set, serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Notes
Variations & Substitutions
- Dipping Tools: Use a candy-dipping tool or a fork for easier dipping.
- Mix It Up: Try other colors of candy melts for variety, or use white candy melts with a few drops of green food coloring.
- Chocolate Oreo Base: Use different Oreo flavors, like Golden Oreos or Mint Oreos, for a fun twist.
- Layering: Add a second drizzle of a contrasting color (like white or pastel) on top of the green for a more decorative effect.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How do I prevent the melted candy from hardening while I work?
If the melted candy begins to harden, reheat it in 10-15 second intervals in the microwave, stirring well each time. - Can I use white chocolate instead of candy melts? Yes, but candy melts are easier to work with because they don’t require tempering. If using white chocolate, you can add a small amount of coconut oil or shortening to make it smoother.
- How long do these last? Easter chocolate-covered Oreos can last up to 7 days in an airtight container at room temperature. Avoid refrigeration, if possible, as it can cause condensation.
- Can I freeze them? Yes, but keep in mind that freezing may affect the texture of the candy coating. If freezing, place them in an airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper.
- What if my candy coating is too thick? You can thin out the candy coating by adding a teaspoon of vegetable oil or coconut oil until you reach the desired consistency.
