Halloween Mummy Sweet Pastries with Apples and Pears
Halloween Mummy Sweet Pastries with Apples and Pears. The crust around apples and pears is made with puff pastry, and it’s crunchy both from baked puffed pastry and crystallized sugar. Inside each mummy is a baked apple or pear.
Roll puff pastry sheet and slice it thinly to make ribbons (strips).
Make sure apples and pears are cored and peeled. If you have a hard time coring the pear, just cut the pear in 2 parts, core both slices, put 2 parts together and bind them with puff pastry strips as described below:
In a medium size bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.
Roll apple and pears in sugar and cinnamon mixture.
Wrap puff pastry strips around each fruit, stretching puff pastry dough carefully and making the strips look like “bandages” to completely cover a fruit. Ran those bandages up and down, vertically and horizontally across the fruit.
Whisk 1 egg in a small bowl to make egg wash. Brush puff pastry strips on fruits with egg wash. Sprinkle “mummies” generously and thoroughly (around all sides) with sugar.
Place fruit mummies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 20 minutes until puff pastry puffs up and gets somewhat golden.
