  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb chicken breast, boneless and skinless
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2/3 cups heavy cream
  • 2/3 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (use Parmesan, or Mozzarella, or 4-cheese mix)
  • 8 oz fettuccine (for gluten free version, use gluten free brown rice fettuccine)
  • 2 cups cooked broccoli florets
  • 7 strips cooked bacon
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil on medium-high heat in a large skillet. Season chicken breast with salt and pepper. Cook chicken breast on high heat for 2 to 4 minutes on each side, until browned, then remove the skillet from heat and keep the chicken covered to continue cooking it in its own steam until no longer pink. Remove chicken from the skillet. You can also use pre-cooked chicken. Cut chicken into thin slices.
  2. Add minced garlic to the skillet. Add heavy cream, milk, bring to boil. Add cheese and stir till it completely melts.
  3. Cook pasta according to instructions. Drain.
  4. Add cooked pasta, cooked bacon, cooked broccoli and mix everything in. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Top with sliced cooked chicken.

    Looks delicious! Nettie

  • melissa August 9, 2015, 1:37 am

i made this tonight and it was delicious! all 4 of the family members loved it. i was a bit naughty (because it’s a naughty dish anyway, so i figure: if i’m gonna splurge, splurge BIG!) and used the bacon grease to sautee the garlic and the chicken in. it was so dang good! it does use several dishes to make it though so i wouldn’t do it after work during the week. since it’s so rich, i served it with fresh, tart plums and green grapes.

  • Jane B August 10, 2015, 10:50 am

I am one of “those” people who hate broccoli. Any substitute?? The rest sounds great!!

    • Barbara Szymanski September 12, 2015, 3:31 am

I made this and used asparagus instead of broccoli

    • Pam September 13, 2015, 2:58 pm

      maybe spinach?

    • Stephanie September 21, 2015, 3:17 pm

Use anything you want, so long as it won’t disintegrate while cooking. Zucchini or summer squash would both be good substitutes; just make sure you seed them. Eggplant would also be good. So would spinach; just make sure you chop it up, and add it at the very end and stir it in just until it wilts. otherwise the dish will have a strange taste.

    • Niki September 27, 2015, 5:49 am

If you haven’t already tried, I’ll bet spinach would be a delicious substitute.

    • Sarah November 8, 2015, 5:30 pm

      Peas!

    • Cindy November 11, 2015, 11:18 pm

      Cauliflower?

    • Tiff m May 18, 2016, 9:21 am

Try using cauliflower in place of broccoli.

  • Jess August 24, 2015, 12:31 am

    This was AMAZING.

  • Veronica Amodia de Cesero August 27, 2015, 7:17 am

Adorei! Because I could have an alternative kind of sauce. Since I always make spaghetti
only. Thanks a lot. More power to you, Julia.

  • monica September 2, 2015, 11:56 pm

This was So good. I also used a bit of the bacon grease for the chicken but didn’t feel so bad bcuz it had no nitrates it preservatives. And I added a lil bit of butter right before I added the cream. The only thing is that I bought the pre-shreded cheese and its not as creamy will not cut corners next time and I think I’ll use Shrimp & maybe thinner noodles. So many veggies O can’t wait to make it again. Pot Luck!

  • Katie September 3, 2015, 7:25 am

This looks amazing! Question: should the chicken be wrapped in foil for it to continue cooking? Or is there another way your recommend?

  • Christine September 6, 2015, 5:39 am

  • Flo September 7, 2015, 4:53 pm

My sauce turned into a clumpy mess, what did I do wrong??

    • Susan February 21, 2016, 5:43 pm

I just made this and it curdled I think, it’s a big clumpy mess. I followed the directions. It smells delicious, take out for tonight. πŸ™

  • Patti September 27, 2015, 1:07 pm

Can this be made ahead of time and put in the oven to heat through before serving?

  • Janette October 7, 2015, 12:53 am

This looks super good and really easy. Thanks for sharing!

  • Shannon October 25, 2015, 8:00 pm

This was delish! I omitted the broccoli as my family does not eat, but added to my plate once done. I used 2 tbs of butter to olive oil and used the Italian style cheese plus a lil extra parmesan. Definitely will make again.

  • Aimee November 2, 2015, 5:34 pm

About how long do you leave the chicken covered to cook til it’s temp safe and no longer pink?

  • Aimee November 2, 2015, 5:37 pm

About how long do you leave chicken covered til it is temp safe and no longer pink?

  • Karen November 21, 2015, 10:44 pm

This was a very tasty dish. I bought a rotisserie chicken from BJ’s instead of fresh chicken breasts to cut down on time and because we don’t eat
Pork bacon I substituted turkey bacon. I would make this dish again.

  • Mae November 27, 2015, 11:40 pm

This is so good!!!!! I added mushroom in mine πŸ˜€

  • Julianne December 11, 2015, 7:02 pm

  • Rebecca Loughry December 20, 2015, 9:24 am

Looks good, but no nutritional information.

  • Nessi December 28, 2015, 4:47 pm

My hubby can’t have broccoli what would you substitute?

  • Monique December 29, 2015, 2:34 am

What would 2/3 cups of heavy cream be in mls? And is heavy cream double cream?

    • Iris July 22, 2016, 8:13 am

You can just use 1 1/3 cup of Half and Half instead of the whole milk and heavy cream.

  • Adriana Acevedo December 31, 2015, 4:17 pm

Made this last night and it was SO good! Awesome recipe!

  • chris January 1, 2016, 6:17 pm

Made this tonight, it was a winner with my family! Thank you πŸ™‚

  • Marijka January 27, 2016, 9:03 pm

Super tasty, although I felt that it was a tremendous amount of work… I saw the photo of everything in one pot and assumed it would be down to one dish… ha! Still, I will make this again for sure!

  • Simone January 28, 2016, 2:07 am

Hi could you email me an alternative sauce as I’m not much of a fan of a creamy sauce?
    Thanks, Simone

  • Tracey January 29, 2016, 12:30 pm

Can this be made with something else besides heavy cream? It sounds amazing but trying lower the fat content on a lot of recipes for the entire family.

    Thanks,

  • jas January 31, 2016, 9:55 pm

Thank you for this yummy recipe. It was a big hit at our home.

  • Jess February 2, 2016, 12:41 pm

What kind of cheese did everyone use? Mozz?

  • Melissa February 3, 2016, 7:24 pm

Just in case no one has heavy cream on hand, I substituted 4oz Cream Cheese and it was delicious. I also used Penne vs. Fettucine and Canned Chicken in place of Fresh Chicken, cooked. Half Parmesan and half Mozzarella was what I used. Fresh Garlic, minced, makes a world of difference. ☺️

  • Tally February 7, 2016, 4:17 am

I’m making this tonight in the slow cooker. I’m using cream of chicken instead of Alfredo sauce. Wish me luck.

  • Jasmine February 9, 2016, 11:54 pm

What would be a good alternative to the sauce? The hubby can’t have cheese

  • LaVon February 9, 2016, 11:57 pm

Will try. My husband and I love cooked broccoli.

  • Holly February 13, 2016, 11:41 pm

Made this for dinner, hubby doesn’t much like pasta…this dish was a hit!

  • Heather February 22, 2016, 6:13 pm

I made this for dinner tonight-delicious!! I only had some pre-cooked (real) bacon pieces which worked out fine. I didn’t have heavy cream so just used 1 1/3 cups of 1/2 and 1/2. Will definitely make this again!

  • Mandi February 22, 2016, 7:12 pm

“Best meal of the year!” according to my husband. I think that sums it up. Thanks for the yummy recipe!

  • Kirby Bailey February 23, 2016, 5:03 pm

Thanks for the recipe! Always looking for great healthy meals!

  • susie February 24, 2016, 9:24 am

Looks wonderful! I have been making a carbonara for many years, using all these same ingredients except the chicken. My husband and I have moved to a mostly carb free diet the past couple years. It has always been one of our favorite dishes but the pasta meant being unable to make it. One day it dawned on me to use spaghetti squash in place of the pasta. It works quite well.

  • Vanessa February 25, 2016, 5:56 pm

Words cannot begin to describe how amazing this is!! ( I’m typing between servings!) The adjustments i made however is that I seasoned my chicken breasts in homemade blackened seasoning, fried them in the grease from the bacon and boiled the noodles in Better then Bullion chicken base and I used mozzarella cheese…..AMAZING!!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!!

  • crystal February 26, 2016, 4:33 pm

Can this be made with coconut milk? I have a kids that can’t process dairy πŸ™

  • Valerie February 28, 2016, 5:31 pm

Hi Julia…..I made this tonight and it was amazing!!! Thanks for an awesome recipe!

  • Valerie February 29, 2016, 10:30 am

    Hi Julia,
I made this last night and it was absolutely amazing! Just wanted you to know that and thanks for sharing this delicious recipe!

  • Ashley March 6, 2016, 10:52 pm

This recipe was kinda blah. The bacon doesnt really add too it. If I were to make it again I would maybe add more sauce. This is a lot of calories for not a lot of flavor.

  • Nicks March 12, 2016, 11:05 am

Hi how many calories are in this meal lol

  • Kayla April 11, 2016, 4:04 pm

These instructions are very unclear. A few steps have been left out. As a young mom learning to cook nice meals I found these instructions hard to follow. Please rework these! Great meal though.

  • Redelephant8 April 11, 2016, 9:51 pm

Made this tonight! IT WAS A BIG HIT! MY 5 year old even said that her favorite part of the meal was the BROCCOLI!

  • Rochelle April 23, 2016, 8:37 pm

What kind of “cream” ? Any other substitutes??? I’m making it as we speak

  • Eric June 28, 2016, 3:30 pm

Can light cream be used instead of heavy cream?

    • Julia June 29, 2016, 1:00 pm

Yes, it can. I would probably change proportions and use 1 cup light cream and 1/3 cup milk.

  • Kristine Stolworthy July 19, 2016, 9:29 pm

This is excellent! Used 4 cheese mix.
    Yummmmy!

  • Danelle July 28, 2016, 1:18 pm

Made this last night, so amazing!!! The sauce was so easy and delicious!!

  • Cindi July 30, 2016, 4:08 pm

This is a great recipe, my husband LOVED it. I don’t eat bacon but no biggie because it was really easy and I love to see my husband eat.

  • Beth August 2, 2016, 8:37 am

Do you have this recipe in UK measurements? Thanks!

  • Grayson Margaret August 6, 2016, 4:20 pm

    Hi,
I’m taking care of a friend’s 4 kids – my birthday gift to her – and I’ve been looking for a recipe to make for dinner – check! Now I need a dessert recipe and I’ll be good to go.

  • Megan September 11, 2016, 8:16 pm

Made this tonight, came out yummy albeit not super flavorful pasta in my opinion. My sauce was kinda lumpy, I’m not sure if the cheese didn’t quite melt all the way (I used pre-shredded parmesan) or if the milk curdled (but I had it on low temp the whole time) but either way still good. Will make again, maybe with some extra garlic.

  • Vanessa Willis September 14, 2016, 3:46 pm

I made this recipe this morning and it was AMAZING!! Very quick and easy to make. Thank you!!

  • Danielle October 10, 2016, 5:09 pm

How long would you say you let your chicken stand a cook in its own steam?

  • Mandy Holmes October 12, 2016, 10:03 pm

Made this tonight and it is delicious but the sauce came out on the grainy side, any clue why? I will definitely be making this again, thank you for sharing your recipe

  • Chris October 21, 2016, 7:41 pm

Made this today, very good.but my sauce was a little thick, maybe i need to add extra milk

  • Brenda November 14, 2016, 7:50 pm

Made this tonight, This is the BEST Alfredo sauce I have ever had, it truly is wonderful! I used 2 cups of Monterey Jack cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella and 1 cup of the jarred parm. I doubled the milk and heavy cream, then added another 1/2 cup of milk to thin it a bit. A couple dashed of salt and pepper. I did use fresh minced garlic. I used some of the bacon grease from frying the bacon instead of olive oil. I also used 16ozs of pasta instead of 8. My family loved it, it will be made again, most definitely! Thanks so much for the recipe.
